It varied between sad and amusing Wednesday night watching the media commentators searching in vain for something new, original or useful to say about the French language debate. After that exercise in bland banality, even Andrew Coyne was stumped to raise the discussion above platitudes...

Nice historical run-through about campaigning. You are back in your element. Just hope you don't get sick with all the prepared food you will be eating. Watched both debates but I don't feel either moved the needle.

If good people like you exit- what hope have we got? I’m bummed with the thought of you leaving.

All I can say is that Mr. Ivison is a sucker for punishment. Reading about the grind on the campaign trail brings cause to wonder if the Conservatives didn’t do the media a big favour and drop reporters from the daily entourage?

Everything is so stage managed and with the opportunity to question the leaders diminishing, is the huge personal and financial burden worth the results?

Campaigns sound brutal! I understand why you admit to not participating in anymore after this last one. Comes a time where enough is enough, even telling ourselves quietly, staring out the window into the dark. My son told us how he sat and waited, considering his “Career Life Choices”! I chuckled, the boy is growing up. He went back to work,we all are just putting food on our table. Watching our kids grow.Yeah, some of us have been there. Thanks for your insights John, much appreciated

John! You’re still a young pup! Hahahahaha! Last shutdown I was on every young buck tried to stop me and offer to lift it. I guess I’m a liability! lol

Thanks John, not just for the article but also for new words/phrases " proboscis" and 'flipping the bird." I would never have been suitable for politics or for physically following a candidate on their multi-location campaign stops. Like Ignatieff, I wouldn't have had the mental or physical stamina for it. I'm glad there are others, including you, who are up to the task. It reminds me of so many things in life where a lot of buzz, energy and $$ is put into something of so little return. e.g. Jeff Bezoz's fiance and a mix of females are now 'astronauts' by flying into space for a few minutes.

Why is this probably your last campaign. Thinking of retirement? Or just withdrawing from the obvious torture of the campaign trail?

I suspect it will be a majority - four years from now, i will be 63. It’s gruelling and, in amy case, i want to do other things.

Speaking of ‘other things’: Spurs now in the Europa League semis, Rangers eliminated in large part due to abysmal officiating and Uefa’s obvious desire to see Atletico in the final in Bilbao (conspiracy theories abound!)

People, majority are boomer women,we’re saying they don’t like Poilievre because he’s “so aggressive!” Leaders debate he was muzzled, ineffective and quite frankly boring. Damn! I like him the way he is in Question Period!
